Our commitment to Lawyers for Lawyers
Lawyers for Lawyers supports lawyers at risk or under threat due to their professional work. In many countries, the safe practice of law is not a given. Lawyers are intimidated, prosecuted or even physically threatened because of their commitment to fundamental rights. L4L provides support through monitoring, advocacy and capacity building, and pushes for compliance with internationally recognised standards for the legal profession.

As part of our partnership, we commit a certain number of hours to pro bono work and actively contribute to substantive projects. This is our tangible contribution to protecting the profession and clients’ right to legal assistance, even in countries where these are under pressure.
Environmental Lawyers Campaign
We are involved in Lawyers for Lawyers’ Environmental Lawyers Campaign. Environmental lawyers play a crucial role in promoting climate justice and protecting the rule of law, especially for communities hardest hit by environmental damage. They often work under difficult conditions as well, in remote areas and with limited resources. This campaign draws attention to their work, advocates for better protection and calls for more international support.
Amicus brief collaboration
A specific example of our engagement is the joint submission of an amicus brief to the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights. It is being prepared in collaboration with Lawyers for Lawyers, Nysingh, the Bar Human Rights Committee (UK) and various African partner organisations. Its content focuses on protecting environmental lawyers in the face of climate change. Four master’s students from Radboud University are supporting this project at the Law Clinic, guided by our lawyers and L4L.
Themes touching on our CSR vision
Lawyers for Lawyers’ commitment to protecting lawyers worldwide is closely aligned with our vision on social responsibility. By standing up for the free exercise of the profession and the right to legal assistance, they contribute to a just society in which fundamental rights are guaranteed. With this partnership, we not only empower colleagues in vulnerable situations, but also reinforce access to justice for the people they represent.
