My name is Jonathan Overes. I specialise in issues about insurances and liability. My service provision is geared towards insurance and other professionals, domestic and international insurance firms, insurance brokers and public authorities.
Over the years, I have built up special expertise in insurance law and various types of insurance, such as fire insurance (for property), corporate liability and general life insurance, professional indemnity insurance, directors’ and officers’ liability insurance and contractors’ all risk insurance.
In addition, I specialise and am highly experienced in a range of liability issues, particularly as regards damage to property (such as fire, water, product and pipe damage), professional liability (e.g. of insurance brokers, loss adjusters and legal professionals) and class actions.
In my opinion, being a lawyer is the best legal profession to have: you’re deeply involved in the law, you practise it hands on and you can be very creative. My focus is on helping clients with complex insurance and liability issues, which includes seeking clear and comprehensible solutions that help them move forward.
Other activities
In addition to my legal work, I am writing a book (an academic thesis) on insurance law from the perspective of fire insurance at Erasmus University Rotterdam. It is now nearing completion and is expected to be published in 2025. It is a legal manual in which I present an in-depth examination of the meaning of insurance law has with respect to the characteristic features of fire insurance.
