Linde Miltenburg

Attorney at law

On June 26, Boom Juridisch Publishers released the book The European and International Law Status of the Wadden Sea, which was co-authored by Linde Miltenburg, a lawyer in administrative and environmental law at Nysingh.

In collaboration with Prof. Marleen van Rijswick, professor of European and national water law at Utrecht University, Linde contributed to this book with a chapter on the EU Exotics Regulation and the international treaties on which it is based. The Exotic Species Regulation aims to minimize, mitigate and prevent the adverse impacts of invasive exotic species on biodiversity and human health and safety and to reduce their social and economic impact. Preventing and controlling the problems associated with invasive exotic species is also a challenge in the Wadden Sea and is closely related to water management and nature conservation.

The book stems from a research assignment given to the Wadden Academy by Rijkswaterstaat in close coordination and cooperation with the Ministries of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality and Infrastructure and Water Management. To this end, the Wadden Academy entered into cooperation with legal experts on the most important international treaties and EU regulations applicable to the Wadden Sea. This book is the final report of the joint work. The book describes and analyzes the international treaties and EU regulations in the field of nature and water that apply to the Dutch Wadden Sea and the Ems-Dollard, and their implementation in Dutch legislation. The authors have mapped out which prohibitions and obligations, including restoration tasks, result from these rules. Their main findings are brought together in a comprehensive concluding chapter.

The knowledge shared with this book is relevant for policymakers, nature managers and permit issuers, as well as researchers, civil society organizations and interested citizens. The book can also be used for Dutch-language education in the field of environmental law and policy. The book is published by publishing house Boom Juridisch and can be ordered by interested parties via this link.
