Prof. Jaap Sijmons (1959) studied at the University of Utrecht, graduating in Dutch law as a lawyer and obtaining his doctorate in philosophy. He has been a lawyer since 1988 and a partner at Nysingh lawyers-notaries N.V. in Zwolle since 1995.
Jaap is chair of the Healthcare department of Nysingh lawyers-notaries N.V. and acts mainly for healthcare providers in disputes with the government and its administrative organs or in disputes with healthcare insurance companies. His advisory practice includes the fields of configuration of healthcare services, corporate group formation in healthcare, cooperation between institutions and mergers.
He has published on health law and other legal topics in titles such as the Tijdschrift voor Gezondheidsrecht, Nederlands Juristenblad, the Advocatenblad and ZM Magazine. His annotations appear in Tijdschrift voor Gezondheidsrecht, RZA and Gezondheidszorg Jurisprudentie.
Jaap obtained his doctorate in November 2006 from the University of Groningen on the topic of supply regulation and the Healthcare Institution Admission Act. (His thesis has now been commercially published by Sdu).
In addition to his legal practice, Jaap has been endowed professor of health law at the Molengraaff Institute of Utrecht University since 1 January 2007.
