My name is Bas ten Kate. I have specialised in administrative and private law issues for government agencies since 1989. My focus is primarily on land acquisition, expropriation, the implications of the Didam judgment, compensation for loss resulting from administrative acts and planning blight. I advise and litigate on matters on behalf of the State, provincial authorities, municipalities, water boards and semi-public bodies. This often involves projects in which various organisations collaborate on major infrastructural planning works. Examples of such projects I have been involved in include the High Speed Rail Link, various national and provincial roads, Room for the River, the Meuse River project, the Water Framework Directive, dyke improvement projects and housing and business park sites.

I also advise municipal and provincial authorities on private and public law matters, such as long-term leases, subsidies and property developments.

In addition to my work as a lawyer, I do a lot of ancillary work in my field of expertise. As such, I lecture for the NCOI (the Netherlands Commercial Educational Institute), the Centre for Professional Legal Education (CPO) and KPE Morel, I also work for the Tijdschrift voor Bouwrecht (the construction law journal) and publish regularly in various professional journals. In addition, I have been a board member as well as the chairman of the Expropriation Lawyers Association.

I regularly share news, insights and knowledge on land acquisition and expropriation on Nysingh’s Expropriation blog.

Feel free to call or email me.
